Default The State of the Game...

I hope this is the correct forum for this...

I have noticed within the last few months, a few disturbing things...They seem to be Harbingers of Deterioration. I really hope not.

1. Alliances are dissolving at a rapid rate

2. For every guild that dissolves, it seems that 3 new guilds are forming

3. While the number of existing guilds seems to be increasing, the available player base is decreasing (despite Z-missions & Z-quests)

4. We have lost a great fansite, Crossing Tyria.

Am I the only one noticing?

Can we hold on until GW2?

Do we really want to?

When GW2 lands, will you desert GW1 for it, go to another game entirely or stay?

It honestly doesn't matter if a ton of people leave before Guild Wars 2. They will be back once it launches anyways.

I have been playing about 3 1/2 years and still Love GW1. I plan to play it even when GW2 launches as well as GW2 itself. When or if they shutdown GW1..which i pray they never do...I then hope there is some way we will be able to download our account content and chars to play in single player so to speak.

I'm not so worried about it...GW already had an enviable longevity and with the infos about GW2 lot of players are coming back. About the possible stagnation of gameplay..well is normal i think: with most of developers concentrated in GW2 project.

I never stopped to play and I will play GW1 until servers are off;

has this been happening everywhere? maybe people just want to try and do everything they set out to do in GW before GW2 comes along, i'm doing that (only with achieving things like titles e.t.c.). i suppose it's a bad thing though since most guilds would wnat to continue into GW2, whilst everyone leaves and makes their own guild.
when GW2 comes i might check onto here to see what happens to spamadan.
if they cut off the GW1 servers years from now i hope they put a notice uyp on GW1 site, GW2 site and logins so everyone can come and party

It's been like this for the past couple of years. Pretty normal consider how old GW is now. Nothing last forever, son.

I'm surprised guildwars lasted this long. A game based on grinding can only last so long.

Guild Wars was never based on grinding...

Ballanced PvP that tested your skill was what GW was based on.

Titles and "grind" was added in later in its life to satisfy farmers and PvE minded people who needed to waste their time. Nightfall was the first time Anet started to care about PvE.

To the OP, it's unfortunate to see so many guilds dissolving, but i'm sure the members who have bonded well will play together in GW2. Our guild will be playing into Aion, GW2 and whatever they throw at us. Plus it doesn't really matter how the number of guilds or dissolving of alliances affest this game. We've lost players since EotN release and it''s understandable. What is more detrimental to the state of this game is its economy which has seen so many rare skins and even green items lose incredible amounts of value over time. and it pisses people off.

Our Alliance recently 'dissolved'. At one point only 3 of the Guilds were active, so we ditched the inactive ones and the 3 of us joined another Alliance. Having loads of fun again playing with new people.

No we know he thinks GW is dead, but what will that mean?

Is that part of some weird 12-stepping program for MMOs?

1. We admitted we were powerless over GW—that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore balance to the gameplay.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Linsey as we understood Her.
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5. Admitted to forums, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our belief in the death of GW.
6. Were entirely ready to have a content update remove all these defects of character.
7. Humbly asked Her to remove hero limitations.
8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and then watched My Name is Earl instead while farming faction.
9. Showed 'My Name is Earl' to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. Continued to take personal inventory and made a few other posts about GW being dead.
11. Sought through prayer, meditation and the Wiki to improve our conscious contact with Linsey as we understood Her, reading C# for dummies hoping for the power to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to all fan forums, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

The way the game is designed, you don't lose interest if you truly don't want to. The senses of completeness and boredom are self-defined. I admit that I have abandoned the game before, but only to realize that I didn't really have to stop playing because I was "done", and I also found myself always having GW on while playing other games.

In response to "GW=grindwars": With most traditional MMO's, I find myself just grinding quests merely for levels to get to the max level: go into hub, get all quests without really reading them, go to markers on my map, kill stuff, come back, turn in quest, go to next hub and repeat. Once I get max level, I repeat the same "end game" content, which composes of 5-10% of the entire game content. Doing a low-level quest at max level has no real meaning to my main characters. Then by the time I "get bored", they release new "end-game" content that makes me forget of some of the last content I was repeating.

How I see guild wars, the whole game in its entirety is replayable after I beat a campaign, being rewarded at the same time for playing it (storybooks, HM, titles, etc). If I get bored doing one thing, I have the other 99% of the game's content at my disposal. And new things are tweaked/changed/added every couple of months to keep things fresh and different.

Also, most of the content is completable solo or with small groups. "Super-Duper-Impersonal-Metas-Guild-Of-People-Who-Rely-On-Other-People-To-Give-Them-A-Reason-To-Have-Fun" alliances can crumble for all I care... it doesnt really affect me. It's sad to know people are leaving, but I am still having fun, even when playing solo, but that is just me.

Plus, if they ever want to pick it up again, all they have to do is turn the client on. The game is easy to jump back into, without feeling like the population is "9 months ahead" of you.

Guild Wars has such versatility and accessibility, while costing a heck of a lot less month than traditional subscription RPGs, with practically 100% of the game replayable for your main characters, while still having support and development that keeps it comparable with the AAA level of online rpg titles.

I'm with you Zigity. I always find things to do, but not so for the majority of people in the game.

I'm just commenting on the State of the Game and how that state is changing others. I think some of the commenters should have re-read my post before posting. I am not bored with GW, only finding a sense of boredom in others.

I asked certain questions of others wanting opinions, not assumptions that I was bored with it.

I for one can wait on GW2 and I am still not sure (even with the trailer/artwork released) that I want to leave GW1 (Fantasy MMO) for GW2 (science fiction/fantasy MMO?).

Z'HA'DUM, the family is fine...how's yours?

I hardly play it now and I know many more that are stopping, it will continue - it's natural.

The player base will continue to dwindle by old players, except perhaps attracting a few people who are new to the game and pick it up. Every game is like this and considering and how long it's been about it's not surprising. Roll on GW2 I say,

Guild wars is not deteriorating, people are just finishing the game. The game is still high quality, but most people can't run around like a hamster on a treadmill doing the same stuff over and over. The fan base will always be there waiting for new content and GW2. The play styles have deteriorated into a degenerate farmfest with SF being abused left and right. You also have people who can't make a build rolling though the game with sabway/discordway and a backpack full of consumables. But at this point I don't think it matters, the game will still be entertaining for newcomers and those who can stomach the same content year in and year out will get 10 GWAMM's, max out every obscure title in the game and farm Tyria till they are blue in the face. Not a bad state of affairs for a game that has been dead for two years. GW will be fine.

I wasn't saying YOU were bored, that is just the general sense of why people are leaving. So to answer you questions...

Am I the only one noticing? no.

Can we hold on until GW2? yes.

Do we really want to? only if you want to

When GW2 lands, will you desert GW1 for it, go to another game entirely or stay? depends... gotta wait, especially if they link more content like HoM.

=)
